Indian Island County Park

Riverhead

A 275-acre Suffolk County park where the Peconic River opens into Flanders Bay. Sandy beaches, hiking trails, waterfront picnic areas with grills, and a full campground. One of the few publicly accessible beaches on the Fork outside Orient Beach.

Inlet Pond County Park

Greenport

A 55-acre Suffolk County preserve with no parking permit required. A 1.5-mile trail winds through woodlands to a quiet Soundfront beach with Connecticut views. A paradise for birdwatchers and anyone seeking a free, crowd-free beach.

Norman E. Klipp Marine Park

Greenport

Also known as Gull Pond Beach — bay swimming with views of Shelter Island and Bug Lighthouse. Boardwalk, fishing pier, boat launch, restrooms, picnic area, grills, and playground. Lifeguards in summer. Walkable from Greenport village.

Orient Beach State Park

Orient

The crown jewel of North Fork beaches — Orient Beach State Park stretches over 45,000 feet of pristine shoreline along Gardiner's Bay at the very tip of the North Fork. Swim in calm, shallow waters, paddle through protected Hallock Bay by kayak, bike the nature trail through a rare maritime forest.

Soundview Dunes Park

Peconic

A quiet, under-the-radar preserve with a pathway through beautiful dunes to a Long Island Sound beach. No permit required to walk in. Rocky and natural with no amenities, but the dune landscape and Sound views are genuinely special.

South Jamesport Beach

Jamesport

A bayside gem on Peconic Bay with sandy shores, calm waters, tennis/pickleball courts, basketball, playground, gazebo, picnic tables, boat launch, and seasonal refreshment stand. Perfect for families with young kids.
